AMSLER GRID PATIENT EDUCATION
The most frequent and important symptom of macular degeneration is distortion.
Objects appear bent, crooked or irregular. One very good way to test your central vision in order to detect even the smallest changes is to use this Amsler grid.
The following instructions should be followed:
- Wear your reading glasses.
- Cover one eye.
- Look at the centre dot and keep your vision on it at all times.
- While looking directly at the centre, and only the centre, be sure that all the lines are straight and all the small squares are the same size. Do not stare at the grid, just glance at it for a couple of seconds only.
- If you should notice any area on the grid that becomes distorted, discoloured, blurred or otherwise abnormal, please call us right away.
